Planning Condensate Drain-Hose Lengths: A 5/8" Quotation Example

AC drain hose, fittings and required length

Plan air-conditioner drain-hose quantities by measuring the actual route from each indoor unit to a suitable discharge point, not by multiplying the number of units by an assumed length. Unnecessary joints, reverse slopes and inaccessible connections can create maintenance problems.

The Ertunç price list lists the air-conditioner condensate drain hose as 5/8". This nominal size does not guarantee a direct fit to every unit. Check the unit outlet, hose connection dimensions and any adapter together.

List prices exclude VAT. The 25-metre total is an illustrative product subtotal, not a promise of coil length or stock.

The list price checked on 24 September 2026 is TRY 15.82/m. For example, 25 × TRY 15.82 = TRY 395.50 excluding VAT. This calculation excludes installation, fittings, insulation and delivery, and does not guarantee a ready-made 25-metre coil.

Measure the Required Length in Four Steps

  1. Mark the start and discharge point for each unit. Include trunking, wall penetrations, vertical drops and bends in the actual route.
  2. Check the required slope, insulation and jointing arrangement against the unit’s installation instructions. Do not assume one layout applies to every model.
  3. Add only the connection and cutting allowance required by the installation. Record each run’s needs instead of applying an arbitrary fixed percentage.
  4. Record total length and the continuous cut list together. For example, 4.5 m + 6 m + 7.5 m gives 18 m before allowances; this is an example, not a standard installation quantity.

Distinguish Gravity Drainage from Pumped Drainage

A gravity drain must allow water to travel towards the discharge point. Sagging sections that retain water or upward loops can disrupt drainage. For a pumped system, permitted lift and routing are determined by the pump or unit instructions; adding a longer hose is not a design solution.

Where traps, vents, shared drains or wastewater connections are involved, assess the unit instructions together with the drainage design. Plan for the specific model rather than applying one slope or trap rule to all air conditioners.

Checks Before Extending a Drain Hose

The connector should not restrict the passage and must be secured according to the installation instructions. Keep serviceable joints accessible. Check outdoor exposure and mechanical protection requirements, and any indoor insulation needed to manage condensation, against the hose and unit documentation.

Delivery and Installation Checklist

Check the hose size, condition and planned cut lengths. Before closing up the installation, the installer should perform the unit manufacturer’s drainage test and inspect joints, retained water and the discharge point. If a problem appears, inspect the whole route rather than only the total length.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are 5/8" and 16 mm the same connection?

5/8" converts mathematically to 15.875 mm. Similar nominal labels do not guarantee fit or sealing. Compare the actual unit outlet, hose and adapter dimensions.

How many metres are needed for each air conditioner?

There is no fixed quantity. Measure each unit’s actual route, vertical drop and connection allowance, then record the total and continuous lengths separately.

Can the drain hose run uphill?

Do not create an arbitrary rise in a gravity drain. If pumped drainage is needed, use the permitted lift, connections and safety arrangement specified by the unit or pump manufacturer.

Can several units share one drain line?

This requires more than counting units. Shared-line capacity, backflow, slope and maintenance access must be designed; do not connect multiple units arbitrarily to one 5/8" hose.

Is taping a joint enough?

Use the correct connector and the manufacturer’s securing and sealing method. Tape alone does not correct a size mismatch or a mechanically insecure joint.

Can the drain hose remain outdoors in sunlight?

Outdoor, UV and temperature suitability must be verified for the specific hose. Provide protective routing or insulation where required; a clear or white appearance does not establish resistance.

Does the TRY 395.50 example include installation?

No. The 25 m × TRY 15.82 calculation covers the hose only, excluding VAT. Installation, fittings, insulation and delivery are separate items.

What information should I send for a quotation?

Send the unit count and model, outlet size, each run length, required continuous pieces, indoor/outdoor sections and destination. List any required adapters or insulation separately.

Turn the length calculation into order lines

Write the size, route and required continuous length on a separate line for each unit, then add the lines. This exposes the cutting requirement even if the total metres remain unchanged.

Metre prices exclude VAT. Total required length does not confirm a ready roll, stock or delivery in one continuous piece; cutting, packaging and delivery are confirmed in the written quotation.

Is the sum of two separate drain routes one continuous hose length?

No. Total metres summarise the price request; continuous length is a separate requirement for each run. Check the equipment outlet, size compatibility and any joints for each route. Cutting and delivery in one piece are specified in the quotation.
