Choose the connection for its function

A tapping saddle is considered when adding an outlet to a main pipe. The dimension fitting around the main pipe and the outlet thread describe different connections. Keep bolted or clip-on designs and single- or twin-outlet options distinct when specifying this range.

Specify the main pipe and branch

Record the actual main-pipe outside diameter, pipe material and nominal outlet thread size together. For twin outlets, check outlet orientation and clearance for valves, adapters and access around the pipe. The outlet thread size cannot be calculated from the main pipe diameter.

Compare bolted and clip-on designs

The fastening method and component seating depend on the model. For a bolted design, verify the tightening sequence and permitted method; for a clip-on design, verify engagement and locking requirements. Do not transfer another saddle’s installation procedure merely because it looks similar.

Plan the installation area and tapping procedure

Dirt, scratches and incorrect positioning at the seal contact area can affect sealing. Plan the pipe opening, burr control and component position using the appropriate method. The name “tapping saddle” is not authorisation to work on a pressurised line; the procedure depends on the selected product and system instructions.
